About JFK MS
About John F. Kennedy Middle School
John F. Kennedy Middle School educates students in grades 6 through 8. Our faculty and staff are dedicated to creating a positive learning environment that recognizes the unique needs and talents of our students. Our academic curriculum is focused on critical thinking and cooperative learning. We have a daily advisement period that combines restorative practices and the Leader in Me 7 Habits. Our goal is to create lifelong learners prepared for an ever-changing global society.
Our educational program provides learners with opportunities for acceleration, enrichment, and support services. We currently offer acceleration in math and science, which lead to Regents credit in Common Core Integrated Algebra and Earth Science. Students who are excelling in their coursework may also be placed into honors-level courses in ELA- creating a solid foundation and the potential for them to progress seamlessly on a pathway toward advanced placement courses in high school.
Academic support is available to all students with an emphasis on building literacy and math foundational skills. We offer a robust RTI program in Math and Literacy and house a unique Academic Learning Center. Our Academic Learning Center (ALC) is available to all students during the school day and after school Monday through Thursday for academic support and enrichment in all subject areas.
Students in middle school are introduced to the languages and cultures of either France or Spain, as well as music, the arts, family and consumer sciences (FACS), health, and technology. The middle school’s physical education curriculum promotes the philosophy of fitness for life and includes an interactive fitness studio. Students are offered in array of extra-curricular programs and clubs in the arts, music, character-building, reading, and much more. Students in grades 7 and 8 can participate in a myriad of winter, fall, and spring sports.
Our student support team (SST) includes a full-time school counselor and school social worker. They are available through our guidance office and promote and support positive social emotional and mental health for all students and families.
